The Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy is dedicated to maintaining an open forum where Wright-related discussion may be fostered without the interjection of spam or unwanted posts. Controlling spam is an issue for all online forums and we are looking into several different ways to combat this problem. Several users/IP addresses have been banned due to their actions and will continue to do so as ‘users’ breach our terms of service. Additionally, a moderator has been appointed to delete inappropriate posts and report on suspicious activity.

In the future, all official messages from the administrator will be posted on this thread.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact preservation[at]savewright[dot]org.

When we first launched Wright Chat, there were many other such sites on the internet. Over time, Wright Chat became the premier site for intellectual discussion about the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright and the Building Conservancy’s mission to facilitate the preservation and maintenance of his built works. We were pleased that our site became the place to go for such interaction. Except for a brief period of SPAM infection last year, the site has remained dedicated to its original purpose of serving the interests of Wright homeowners, Wright public sites, and the entire Wright-interested community.

Since its inception, Wright Chat has posted the terms of use. By registering to post, all users agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions.
While the administrators and moderators of this forum will attempt to remove or edit any generally objectionable material as quickly as possible, it is impossible to review every message. Therefore … you agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, *-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws or is inappropriately offensive. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed). The IP address of all posts is recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions. You agree that the webmaster, and administrator and moderators of this forum reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit.

Recently, a few posters have disregarded these terms to the extent that we have been informed by many loyal members of their disappointment and reluctance to visit the site. The offending parties have continued to disrespect these terms of use even after being cautioned about the consequences of their behavior.

We hope the cooling-off period of the past few days has caused all users to realize that Wright Chat will no longer tolerate personal attacks, sarcastic slander, vindictive criticism, spiteful retaliation or personal vendettas against other users, individuals or organizations. It is not the forum for personal communication of any nature between two parties, but all posts are for the benefit of our entire audience. If not conducted with the civility of human decency, they and their authors will be permanently denied the privilege of using our site.

We have recently upgraded software to trace posts to the IP address of the poster and can easily block entrance to any communications from that computer.

If you have any comments or questions about Wright Chat, please do not post them on the site. Send them directly to the Conservancy at preservation[at]savewright[dot]org.

Thank you, and please help us continue to provide a Wright Chat that is educational, informative, intellectually stimulating and well-mannered.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation’s Associate Site Program is a private contract between the Foundation and the Wright Public Sites (sites open to the public either as museums or overnight stays – not private homeowners), and is a matter of the Foundation’s protection of its trademarks, trade names, copyrights and publicity rights when they are used in a commercial setting. As such, each contract is individually negotiated with each site willing to participate, and is not a matter for public debate. Neither this forum, nor any other public forum, should be used to criticize or debate the terms of a private contract between two parties. If any potential participant in the Associate Site Program has any issues to discuss regarding that contract, they need to be taken up directly with the Foundation.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy supports the Foundation’s efforts to protect the valuable trademarks, trade names, copyrights and publicity rights associated with the name FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT for the good of all homeowners, sites and organizations officially connected with Wright and his legacy. Beyond that, the Conservancy has no official connection with the Associate Site Program and will not allow its Wright Chat to be used as a negotiating tool in what should be a two party negotiation.

Hello Everyone -

You may have received suspicious emails stating that you have a private message waiting for you. This is an erroneous spam message sent from our website. Please do NOT open any links or suspicious emails at this time that say you have a virus, you are being reported to an administrator or anything of that nature. We are sorry for the confusion and are quickly working on the issue.

We find such messages very annoying and frustrating as well and have already taken action on senders when that is possible.

Since this is a public chat site these risks seem to be somewhat inherent in this form of communication, though we make every effort to take prompt action when such inappropriate messages are received. We are studying this issue to see if there is anything further that can be done without negatively impacting the free exchange of appropriate information.

Thank you so much for your patience and being a part of The Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy community.

After monitoring WrightChat for the past eight months, the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy has determined that SPAM is now under control and personal messaging can be re-enabled. Several WrightChatters aided us in this endeavor and I thank them for their diligence.

If you encounter a suspicious personal message, do not follow any links and please report to one of the administrators or moderators immediately.

I look forward to continuing to improve the WrightChat user experience and welcome your feedback. Please feel free to contact me via personal message.
