I had always wanted to go see the "Sky Rose" Chapel; I had an appointment elsewhere in Whittier last Saturday and then took the time to go over to see the chapel.

I wasn't able to get inside but obviously it's an awesome building. It's seems like the main space is probably fairly "light" feeling compared to many chapels or churches; there's a lot of glass on the high east and west sides, plus a lot of low glass on the north and south sides, plus some large skylights in the middle.

From what I could see of the interior it was very light inside even though obviously no interior lighting was on.

The detailing of the exterior was very, very interesting; corner glass and very interesting window framing; everything follows the gable angles. The design of course carries over to the interior; beautiful custom made light fixtures.

I'll have to get back over there some time when I can get inside.

A "Park" ranger or whatever I talked to said part of last year's "Star Trek" movie was filmed there; I'll have to check out the dvd.

I highly reccomend stopping by for any Wright fan who's in the Los Angeles area.

I'm attempting to add some photos.

The chapel appears as in Star Trek as the council chambers on Vulcan. There's a great shot looking up at a Vulcan speaker, into the crossing lines of the chapel's trusses.

Great building by a great architect. Light years better than any of the regurgitated Frank Lloyd Wright designs.
