Missing, of course, is the tall stone observation tower and stairway, originally designed to be constructed towards the back of the structure, at the junction of the office wing, where the roof cants upward and outward over the cantilevered balcony. In concept the tower was similar to the tower at the Meteor Crater over-look, and the much more diminutive flag tower at Taliesin West.

Besides expense, the problem was the lack of building code approval, regarding sufficient access and egress. Nevertheless, as a consequence, the as-built design suffers the loss. See elevation drawing in The Future of Architecture: page 66.

Another change was a radical simplification of the crossing tower

As built, the original roof was coloured an intense blue, which occasioned much negative comment. Under assault of the constant desert sun the bluish colour faded, which was much more becoming to the design. Not sure how or when the roof became deadly, Sweeney white.

Never made the association of the Flag Tower at TWest with the meteor crater project.
Very good.

Interesting to me what Wright is quoted as saying in the title block to this project regarding war.
