This house was so far ahead of its time that any updates should fit in without notice. It was a 21st century house built in the 20th century.

It's spectacular, alright - and it was on the Conservancy's tour agenda last fall. I think the house today is best described by this Bestor quote from the article: "‘The best way, in my opinion, was to not be faithful to the original at all costs, but to follow the natural connection between my own design language and that of the likes of Lautner and Frank Lloyd Wright." There were quite a few folks on the tour who thought the house today may be a little too much Bestor and too little Lautner ...

It's always interesting, if disappointing, to observe the language employed by those who have modified an architecturally significant structure for their own purposes or (in the worst cases) whims . . .

"Sympathetic," "respect," thoughtful," "practicality," "today's lifestyle" tend to be trotted out with regularity.
