Re: Fay Jones' Buckley House - Fayetteville, AR
The “birdcage” is just a high clerestory with rafters wrapped with finished trim passing through like a comb. The house cascades down a very steep slope and the composition is enhanced with the multi tiered window bands/clerestories seen from the downhill side.

Nicely done, we don’t see many Wrightian A-frame houses. There are some truly pleasing compositions in the design...also some places to go bump in the night. Ouch.
The post and beam SeaRanch-ish house is interesting, but lacks the polish and orchestration of the A.

It would seem Wright’s and TAA’s preference for the end of row portal continental seating, which has no intervening aisles, but more legroom to allow fellow row guests to easily pass, is raising issues. I don’t see how the theater seating could be reconfigured as tied as it is to the edge circulation.

It was my understanding that similar high lighting or contrast paint applied to the sand finish “peaks” in the plaster at the DDMartin house was accomplished with cloth wrapped wood blocks.

From Jay's post: https://www.1000museums.com/shop/art/frank-lloyd-wright-building-j-a-sweeton-house-illustration/ (It claims the Foundation owns the copyright? Hmmm...) The framed print for sale has the red square with the stylized Frank Lloyd Wright lettering in the lower right corner. That is a re...

I agree with Jay that these renderings are photo based. I just sent the source photo to SDR for posting. According to my iPhone, I took the photo at 12:26 PM on June 26, 2017. As SDR notes, my CorTen equipment screens are in the rendering, as is the Code required fireplace chimney extension, the bac...

I see this as a very well designed house that shows the influence of Wright, Schindler, and a little Albert Frey.
The corrugated works in this instance I think... I like the use of both corrugated metal and translucent fiberglass.

Hoover Dam was constructed from 1931 to 1935. The “chick” first appeared on Voisin radiators in 1923-24. Not sure if Gordon Kaufmann, the architect responsible for the decorative aspects of the dam, was cognizant of the Voisin mascot. Stylized birds were popular elements in Deco design particularly ...

Re: American Systems Built homes
Quite simply, ASBH’s continue to be found. Accurate or complete listings of kits sold or built in the 19-teens were not kept, likely because the Richards Company was to pay royalties to Wright on kits sold and houses built. To avoid royalty payments on an endeavor that was experiencing financial cha...
