Re: This American House

By the time I was a Wright homeowner in 2008, all I did was email the Wright Archive and state that I was an owner requesting drawings to aid in restoration. I “inherited” prints from the design and construction process when we closed on the property, but I didn’t have a full final set. I sent some ...

Re: Pink Guggenheim

A decent article with a history of the Guggenheim’s and the collection, but with an annoying stand out reference to “almost blinding-white color scheme”:

Re: Archives to Avery Library/ Columbia University

There is a second way now to reach the images on ArtStor, but this time connected to projects: https://findingaids.library.columbia.edu/ead/nnc-a/ldpd_12471376 This is the finding aid for the Wright drawings. Click on a decade in the left Series box and the projects are listed by decade. The project...

Re: For sale: William Thaxton House - Houston, TX

This house has been for sale for more than a decade. I have to believe it is not selling because a buyer does not want to pay the asking price. I'd imagine it is attractive to those who like modern design or a well landscaped courtyard in a suburban setting. On looking at the addition over the last ...

Re: Peterson/Lovness 2000 ?

That is most likely the case...a block core affords the ability to place steel reinforcing bars in the walls.

Re: Peterson/Lovness 2000 ?

Elegant.
Siting, forms relating to the strata, the proportions, mass vs. void, shelter without strict enclosure...all are in keeping with Wright’s principles.
The only diversion is the symmetry. In this respect, I’m led to think of Elliot Noyes’ residence.

Re: Parkwyn Village ~ McCartney Residence for Sale

Great to hear from you John, it’s been a while. Thanks again for opening your home to the Grand Rapids FLWBC Conference tours. I look forward to seeing how the soapstone stove is assembled/disassembled. This is a link to another McCartney thread: http://wrightchat.savewright.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=...

Re: Article on Wright Houses in St. Joseph and Benton Harbor, Michigan

During the Grand Rapids FLWBC tour in 2013, the Schultz house and the TAA designed Warren house were open to the Conference attendees. Susan Jacobs Lockhart was on the same tour bus as Christine and me and noted that the Warren house's designer David Wheatley was “her ex”. Pat Mahoney's description ...

Re: Article on Wright Houses in St. Joseph and Benton Harbor, Michigan

Was there any mention of the dearly departed Snowflake Motel in St. Joseph designed by Wes Peters of TAA for Sahag Sarkisian? https://www.claasshaus.com/blog/updated-the-snow-flake-motel Christine and I spent a night in this lost gem during a 1999 road trip...despite years of little maintenance, it ...

Re: Should there be a new social media closed group for Wright?

If the President’s behavior, at the very least over the last six weeks, and certainly his insurrectionist speech yesterday, goes unaddressed or unchallenged, we will set ourselves up for a repeat of this behavior either by this or another leader in the future. The President’s later statement, which ...

“ BLM do nothing but scream, set fires, loot...”
I can't sit idly by with that statement.
That is NOT true. Those that resort to violence, looting, or destruction are a very small minority and not representative at all of BLM.

Words matter...use them carefully and accurately.

Re: Lake Geneva Frank Lloyd Wright look-alike demolished

Say what you will about the siting, massing, and formal composition of this house, but in terms of materials and assemblies and millwork, a long time will pass before we see this level detail and craft. That none of the cabinetry was salvaged is a sin.

The images in the link are photographs of the drawings taken at the FLW Foundation Archives years ago and saved as microfilm/microfiche at the Getty. These are the images one would receive in printed form from the Getty or the FLW Foundation when requesting copies of project drawings. The Avery has ...
