This house seems grossly overpriced, regardless of the neighborhood. Also painfully claustrophobic, as Rod Grant observes. Wright was clearly off-course with his Usonian Automatic theme. I wouldn't live in this house even if it were given to me free. It just goes to show that old men usually don't d...

Speculation in Kansas City is that the buyer, who promises to be a diligent caretaker of the house, will use it as a high-priced Air B&B--unless he already planned to move from Nebraska to Kansas City for business reasons. The neighborhood (Roanoke) is not particularly desirable. Hemingway lived nea...

Sondern-Adler House

The Sondern-Adler house in Kansas City, next door to Thomas Hart Benton's house, sold at auction yesterday to an unidentified Nebraska buyer for a bid of $920,000 plus the auction house commission of 10%, making the total price $1,012,000. Hardly a steal.

The original color of the Community Church was pink. After a rainfall, the building looked like it had a skin disease, all splotchy. Eventually, a painting contractor named Jerome Friedson was hired to paint the building white, and he received angry protests from Wright for doing so. The idea of the...

Puff, indeed.

This house was bequeathed to the Nelson-Atkins Museum by a previous owner, Richard Stern. The museum, befuddled as are most museums, couldn't figure out what to do with the bequest, and finally sold it back to Mr Stern's companion.

Prof. Hitchcock was not the kind of man who would cede editorial control to anyone. He worked with Wright amiably, not realizing that Wright, behind his back, made fun of him and Philip Johnson for being gay. In the Nature of Materials is still the best study of Wright, because Hitchcock had an eye ...

Given the climate in the Chicago area, it looks to me like this house is vastly underserved by radiators and by the measly A/C inserted in the wall of the living room. Also poorly oriented, if the front faces north.

The purpose of restaurants being deliberately loud is to convince customers that this is where lively people go, where the "action" is, etc. Just another aspect of all the noise that now characterizes American popular culture, "popular culture" being an oxymoron in itself. Look how polluted even the...

This is a beauty, and very nicely priced. A better-looking house than many of the FLlW houses so reverently discussed in Wright Chat.

It very much seems that "Wright Chat" has gone to hell by way of being politicized -- like 98% of the rest of American life. Too bad.

The art glass design proportions and that odd display cabinet above the fireplace noted by Rod Grant have a certain clumsiness that make me think of Marion Mahony, not FLlW. She didn't get things quite Wright.
