What was the prefabrication system of these homes? I take it the horizontal wall elements? Or were entire walls shipped to the site? It seems there was still a lot of custom building on site for these homes.

Thanks for posting. I've always thought the Erdman prefab was the dullest home Wright every designed...if in fact he designed it. But there is a "Crestview" model in the brochure that seems much more interesting.

Another factor in the complexity of Wrights details is that the cost of skilled labor was very cheap through the 1930s. I'm looking at it purely from the interest in vertical wood siding. I think Wurster added a V groove which does result in a shadowline, but others in the northwest mounted is flush (Yeon, Belluschi). Willy is brick. I'm not sure if Wright every used vertical mounted siding and his Usonians never had...

Flush mounted siding in general had the benefit of reading more like a volume surface as opposed to a covering. It may be as close to stucco as you could get in the northwest. Wurster and other Bay Area designers used flush mounted siding either horizontal or vertical. Even Nuetra used it in his Bay...

What's the history of using vertical siding? When did this trend begin? I think Breuer used vertical siding. It's common in the northwest.

Somone at the Foundation referred to this at a Taliesin III lamp, but I'm not sure they were ever given an official name. And the reproductions are called Taliesin I as your links indicate.
