I assume that the Wright Erdman house we know is the only design he contributed. The Crestview design seems more spacially interesting to my eye. I don't know much about the Wright design other than it's a rather plane long box with little of the movements of his other designs. Perhaps this was a re...

Another factor in the complexity of Wrights details is that the cost of skilled labor was very cheap through the 1930s. I don't see this as an excuse to make things overly complex, but you could have complex woodworking done for a few bucks an hour in labor cost. I have always thought Wright should ...

Wright's process has a fractal quality in which a guiding module is utilized at every level of detail. That gives a unifying look but it can also be a bit obsessive in its application. I also think that Wright didn't really care much about making his designs convenient to build. He designed and didn...

SDR, I'd welcome your thoughts on Kirk. There is a lot of the Mies module box going on here with his work. Another northwest architect, Paul Thiry was much more international style...as in the concrete work of Corbu. There is an Asian influence in the Pacific Northwest, but I suspect it is Japan by ...

I'm looking at it purely from the interest in vertical wood siding. I think Wurster added a V groove which does result in a shadowline, but others in the northwest mounted is flush (Yeon, Belluschi). Willy is brick. I'm not sure if Wright every used vertical mounted siding and his Usonians never had...

Flush mounted siding in general had the benefit of reading more like a volume surface as opposed to a covering. It may be as close to stucco as you could get in the northwest. Wurster and other Bay Area designers used flush mounted siding either horizontal or vertical. Even Nuetra used it in his Bay...
