Those who consider property rights to belong to the property owner, who gets to exercise his or her judgment without undue outside interference, not matter how significant others consider the property to be. Since I fall into the latter classification... You have presented a black-white situation. ...

What?

If I had half the civility you consistently evidence here on Wright Chat I'd be a happy man, indeed!

I often wonder if we are living in a particularly uncivil age. With the Internet phenomenon, people are, more than ever before, able to publically express themselves. Sadly, if one reads the comments on any blog or news story, most of the comments are remarkable for their incivility. Really, what I ...

John,

At you at liberty to discuss costs?

I mean, is the purchase price, combined with the restoration costs, something that the owner can realistically recoup, say, ten years down the road?

Or is such a project mostly a labor of love?

The Before/After images are wholly fascinating. Before, the house before was certainly attractive, but perhaps mostly to Wright aficionados. It looked tired, shabby, and not quite right. Today, very few people wouldn’t think: Wow! What a GORGEOUS home! I want to live there! John, ya’ did good. O...

The house sold last year for almost $8 million. I assume Tafel paid, what, less than $50,000 in the early 1950s?

Eureka! 14 East 11th Street is, indeed, the Tafel residence, and is the same as pictured in 1954. From StreetEasy: http://streeteasy.com/nyc/sale/589499-multi-14-east-11th-street-greenwich-village-new-york The plans below confirm that the 1954 Tafel renovation was still intact, at least recently. Is...

Thank you Craig. I think that would confirm that Tafel was still at 11th Street when he died last year.

The question is: is 11th Street the same place as shown in 1954? And is it intact? I would love to know.
