That is a superb building.

My conjecture is that a 2x_ wood member ran through and that the planter was bisected into two sections or possibly four quadrants.

Rather than a platform for urns, it is conceivable that the flying beams framed recessed urns.

In SDR's Photo Number 6, the black and white period photo, it appears that FLW had potted plants in urns at the intersection platforms of the flying beams. It works beautifully as FLW designed it when viewed from the door into the pergola from the house. The pergola is at a higher level.

The nature of complete works monographs is that they show every project but none in great detail. It is still hard to beat the 12 volume FLW Monographs.

My wife is a speech pathologist and can't imagine that any speech problem other than cancer would be fixed by surgery. FLW knew a lot about architecture, but this did not extend to speech pathology.

I met Julius at an FLW Annual Conference Event at the Getty several years ago. Julius was a great photographer and a Prince of a Man.
