Thank you. Willey is such a wonderful design and restoration. Is the gray exterior stain the original color?

Music is music and architecture is architecture. They are different. Those legacy projects that I have seen are very mediocre buildings, at best, done in the manner of Frank Lloyd Wright. The Massaro House is rather dreadful.

Congratulations John. Being both the Restoration Architect and Owner of a Frank Lloyd Wright House is a great experience. I know how much you will enjoy the journey. The timing is fantastic with a nascent housing recovery in progress. This is wonderful for Wrightdom and the architectural profession.

In Oak Park there is a self anointed "Frank Lloyd Wright Contractor" who has a "Historic Painter". The result is faux finishes that are not the least bit historically accurate that are repeated over and over in Wright properties. "Historic Painters" are everywhere ready...

I traveled to Maui in September and visited the King Kamehameha Golf Club. "Blown-up" doesn't begin to describe it. As I understand it, this was originally to be a home for Arthur Miller and Marilyn Monroe in Roxbury, CT. The Club web site mentions a 7,000 sq. ft. home that was to be buil...

Thank you for sharing your insights, Outside In. The profile of both the roof and house itself would change significantly. IMO it is not appropriate for this elegant historic house. You have fine strategies and then it all falls apart with these roof concepts.

That is a rather dismal design effort. Just because a building is "in the manner of" Frank Lloyd Wright does not make it a solid design.

IMO asphalt shingles are a better, more appropriate solution and are more cost effective initially. Aluminum roofing sets a dangerous precedent on Frank Lloyd Wright Prairie Houses. One can still do a LEED Certified House with asphalt shingles.

The Charles Brown House is really elegant in spite of its symmetry. The lines in the roof certainly contribute to the design.

The top photograph shows roll roofing. The bottom photograph shows the Walker House which was built 40 years later than the Ross House. It is the product of a different time and technology.

Since John Eifler put this out there with the understanding that it is open to discussion I will offer a few comments, in addition to the master bathroom concept that I articulated above. In general I obviously support this type of project since it so similar to what we are doing on the restoration ...

Looks good, John. I suggest one large master bathroom on the second floor rather than two very small bathrooms. One spacious master bathroom that two people can use simultaneously is more practical and marketable. Space is more luxurious that the ever popular expensive finishes.
