Lath Schiffner and Iovanna were married during my years at Taliesin. Eve lived as an "apprentice" there for part of that period; she is 3 years younger than me. Iovanna was evidencing then, can I say delicately, instability. However, she was always very gracious and kind to me personally and it is s...

Re relocation of McCartney house ... The relocation of Pope (twice!) was mentioned. The Stockman house (Mason City) was relocated to save it ... my recollection is that it did not share its original orientation at the new location. Of course, the Exhibition House was disassembled and we all know wha...

Here's a link to an article with photos taken in Oct 2009 - about 1 1/2 years ago - showing the rose-toned fabric. When we visited the Laurents several years ago, everything to our recollection was this rose-toned fabric. The one room they did not offer to show was their personal bedroom. http://www...

To pterm:
I suggest you discuss the exposed wood/brick with Michael Petersdorf, owner of Muirhead farmhouse. Both are found there; one shower he built is wood and it is fantastic - as is everything else he has thoughtfully restored, revived, or revised.

Price Tower World Heritage Status

The World Heritage Forum in Bartlesville today with Eric and Mary Lloyd Wright, Janet Halstead, Linda Wagner, and others was stellar. Informative and encouraging. Price one of 11 serial buildings by Wright to be nominated. (Jeff ... call me so I can email you the pix taken after the forum.) Great da...

Say what you please about the Jester/Pfeiffer house ... might I suggest much would be forgiven by those who actually experience the house ... and not just in a passing tour. I came to Taliesin as an apprentice shortly after the house was built, at the time when Bruce's father still lived in the hous...

On Muirhead. According to the grandson-in-law (Michael Petersdorf) who shared the house's history when we were bed-and-breakfast guests there last summer ... not only did Wright enclose the long open walkway, but because Mrs Muirhead insisted it be shortened as well, the story goes that Wright rippe...

My wife and I had the privilege of touring the Trier house 07/31/09 as guests of Mrs Trier and a daughter who lives on an adjacent property. Mrs Trier was remarkably alert and conversant, beautifully presented, but functionally blind. The house has been very well maintained and is a treasure; a trib...

I am going to venture, based on my experience, that the "proper" way to sweep is to pick up piles as you create them vs. sweeping up multiple piles and going back to pick them up one by one. As a young apprentice, I was doing the latter but was advised by an observant senior that by doing the former...

When my wife and I were guests at Taliesin last August, we visited Minerva in the Montooth's apartment. Minerva has a timeless verve about her. Charles has suffered dementia and was in a care facility temporarily in Spring Green, where we visited him the next day. He was smartly dressed, well groome...

Wrighter - handrails at Wingspread are not original. Don't forget the diminutive-scaled spiral staircase that clings to the fireplace mass then up and through the clerestory roof to the small glassed-in platform at the top - for Johnson's children to watch him coming and going in his airplane. IMHO,...
