Insanity.
At that price, the buyer of the urn could have bought the McCartney house for $250K, a Suntop unit for $429K, had still had $93K left over for gas money to drive between them. Or, just buy one of them and restore it to a level that would make a Wright Chatter swoon.

Thank you Rood, for answering my question...I can now rest. It would be fun (at least to a geek like me) to set up a thermometer in the boiler room with a camera programmed to snap a pic of it every 15 minutes or so while a fire is in the fireplace, to see how hot it really gets in the boiler room. ...

The auction house is located in Endwell, NY, near Binghamton. It is her intention to try to sell the desk again at a later date. The other Sweeton desk was sold in 2006 (by a different owner) at the Wright auction house in Chicago for $9600. At the same auction in 2006, much of the house's furniture...

Regarding this desk in particular, it is neat, but the larger niche designed for it causes the closet in that room to be smaller than the others. The Danish mod dresser in its place is more practical for our needs at this time. Given the amount of money we need to put into the house itself to keep i...

I corresponded with the Sweeton's daughter yesterday. She indicated that the desk did not sell as bidding did not reach the reserve amount (not disclosed to me). It would seem a well used 1951 redwood plywood desk from a modest house designed by FLLW did not appeal to the clientele at the sale. The ...

I'm pleased to report that the Royston Cottage is in the hands of an enthusiastic preservation minded new owner. I met him at a Wright homeowner's gathering during the Philadelphia FLLWBC conference.

Sweeton's Daughter Auctions Her FLLW Desk

It would appear the second of two desks from the Sweeton house may have been sold on September 17, 2011. The first was auctioned at the Wright auction house in Chicago (wright20.com) a few years ago. On the bright side, the attached link has good pictures of it, and a scan of the furniture sheet fro...

Not at this time, if at all. If it were to be installed, wiring from an existing circuit would need to be run to the flat roof framing, which is not contiguous with anything other than concrete block and the plywood kitchen/bath exhaust duct chase. Once the exhaust is in a real insulated duct within...

dtc: Q: "I'm I seeing Aluminum coat on the roofing that is still attached to your parapets?" A: Yes, the roof was painted with aluminum paint on several occasions throughout its life. At the time the pictures were taken, not all of the old material had been removed yet. The old roofing had...

wjsaia: I had never heard of Wright's description before...the mouse trap imagery is both amusing and astute. With this description, the "randomly" placed (though in practice, quite composed and orderly) circular holes and niches of the ramp's walls take on a new meaning, possibly with som...

Thanks for posting these. Other than William Allin Storrer's single photo in his books, the Friedman house has little photographic documentation. A wildfire in that sparsely populated, arid climate could erase the wood elements of the house in a blink of an eye much like the situation at Pauson. The...

VC Morris has been a favorite of mine too, though I have never visited it. The facade is an elegant composition, and the idea of a shop with no windows seems absurd until it is realized that, in its original configuration sans gate, the window shopper is able to actually be within the store space ev...

This house's similarity to the Gale house in Oak Park, that has been for sale since 2006 for a similar price, caused me to look at the Zillow site to see what the LaGrange and Oak Park neighborhoods have in common. The Emmond house's LaGrange neighborhood seems to have houses of similar vintage and ...

I'm smitten... Looks like a house HB would have clambered to publish in the Elizabeth Gordon/John deKoven Hill days. Sadly, its all too rare to see a 1958 house like this that hasn't been mucked up. Is the vanity mirror canted back to allow facial reflection even with a lower mounting height?...pres...
