Thanks Michael for sharing your pics. Was Schindler with Wright in 1924? The wrapped parallel patterning of the wood shingles, siding and trim "feel" Schindler-esqe. My only criticism with the built product as shown would be that the conversion of the tall skinny sidelights next to the fre...

rigejo511:
I would be very interested in seeing scans of the construction drawings for the house.

Here is my email address, please email me a confirming message as soon as you read this, so I might remove my address from the open thread ASAP.

Thanks for posting this, David. I had never seen the construction photos before, and I had not known that Wright had visited the site few times. It would have been great to be party to Wright's comments as he walked the site...what would have interested him, what tweaks he may have made, any wry com...

Is it known what became of Gene Masselink's icon paintings?

At least the original iconostasis frame is still in use. My only real criticism is the cross added to the top of the dome...architecturally speaking, it looks unnecessary and has the feel of a tacked-on bauble.

dtc: Thanks for your input, it would seem the same principles are at work. The Sweeton windows were almost frosted with dust, dirt, and cobwebs when we started. The bird strikes began when we cleaned the windows, and became more frequent when brush and overgrowth was removed. The SanFran Planning do...

Thank you all for your suggestions...I'll read the SF Planning document to learn what I can.
I'll keep you posted...I have a feeling this will be a trial and error kind of thing.

Birds+Large Plate Glass.....

We have been having a problem with bird strikes at the Sweeton house that seems to be pretty consistent and disturbing: a strike every other week with a fatality every fourth or fifth strike. We aren't sure if the issue is the reflections on the glass, or if the birds are seeing through the house an...

To live in a freshly restored Drummond house, with Walter Burley Griffin houses practically on your doorstep, all in a walkable neighborhood...sounds like the perfect choice.

The interior of the duplex is neat...the approach sequence makes it. The following is a link to William Morgan's website: http://www.williammorganarchitects.com/ My parents rented a condo in a William Morgan building in Ocean City, MD when I was in my teens, it reminded me of a Corbusian sand castle...
