Back when this undertaking was beginning 20 some years ago, I firmly believed that the economics of such a large restoration of a sizable commercial complex in the downtown of a small town were not sustainable. I am so glad I was wrong. Kudos to all involved.

Judging by the exchange between “investigative reporter Regis and his “hapless victim of Wright’s architecture, I’m open to the possibility that this (student project?) was filmed with a tongue firmly planted in-cheek. If not, I’ll defer to the two prev...

June 1900 Architectural Review article on FLLW

For those who don't have the original in their collection or an architectural school's library at their beck and call, Robert C. Spencer Jr.'s famous early article on Wright: https://books.google.com/books?id=XotOAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA65&source=gbs_selected_pages&cad=2#v=onepage&q&f=fals...

Yankee go home!......to Switzerland. My heart goes out to someone financially able to buy a recently restored historic house and who is so unhappy in her gilded age cage. Cue the violins for this American tragedy. BTW, I doubt the much lamented soapstone is original in such an early house being sold...

Same with Turkel. There are, effectively, no views in the living room of Turkel because of the insistent grid of concrete, so planting a forest-like screen of verdure would help decorate the interior. The Turkel living room has views beyond its patio to a mature and very well landscaped deep side y...

The utility shed was designed by John Eifler as part of the rehabilitation of the site. It flanks the guest parking area and stores canoe paddles, life jackets, and other outdoor supplies for which there is no room in the cottage. The wood screen wall marries the storage "box" with the lan...

I recall Edgar Tafel writing in his book Apprentice to Genius about a stopover at the house in the 1930’s during a trek to AZ. Tafel thought the house uncharacteristic of Wright and thin on detail and lacking any real scale. He indicated Wright was not pleased with the house as built, belivin...

I had assumed the block at Jones was gray. Would this have been the interior color as with the CA textile block houses?
This reminds me of learning Fallingwater window and door sash is red.
