Interesting system...it addresses an issue we encountered with a true log building. Our firm designed a building in a resort community that had an architectural restriction requiring the appearance of log construction. We proposed and strongly recommended the use of a thermally broken wall with mode...

I seem to recall reading, perhaps in Besinger's book, that in the days before glass and real enclosure, the vault and the Kiva were used to securely store items left in Arizona when the Fellowship returned to Wisconsin for the summer.

The rear lot line concrete fence with the circles shows up in the earliest photos of the completed building...the E.89th photo above includes it as does the view through the now closed in "drive-thru" approach in this article: https://www.archdaily.com/874207/the-58-year-evolution-of-frank...

While at a friend's house on Sunday, I flipped through a book published by the Solomon Guggenheim Foundation shortly after the NYC Museum's completion in 1959. I was unfamiliar with the book, and was struck by a photo taken from an angle I'd never seen before: standing on E. 89th Street looking sout...

The beauty of many Porsche cars is more experiential than aesthetic, I suppose....a series 1 E-Type Jaguar evokes a springing cat, the Porsche? A frog poised to leap or strike at a fly? Just kidding, kind of. What makes a car well paired to a particular work of architecture? Shared geometry in their...

Many thanks for searching out that thread SDR. I was completely unaware of it. The GVT 2617 model is sweet. I’ll have to keep an eye out for them when road tripping.

Thanks for the link to the Hackl site, quite extensive. I’m convinced. It would appear Sears was sticking a toe in the water with Prairie in their higher end plans but the public was not willing to go there. One wonders if it was the style, expense, or fear of resale issues (was this consider...

A quick Google search leads to only two references to VanBergen and the two Prairie Sears models: 1. the link I posted and, 2. another piece that references and links the link I posted. https://searshousesinohio.wordpress.com/2016/03/20/the-one-and-only-sears-aurora-cincinnati/ From the previously p...

Sears Kit Houses and John VanBergen?

This was news to me... http://www.sears-homes.com/2012/05/sears-homes-designed-by-prairie-school.html I hadn't known that Sears offered Prairie-esque models, but it would seem plausible considering their being headquartered in Chicago. The John VanBergen connection seems possible but not verified......

None. I was not following bidding for this auction. The auction catalog typically lists a range of what the auction house and seller expect/hope the lot will sell for; the price reached must have been below that range or minimum reserve. The original range is no longer available online and I donââ‚...
