I'm sorry to see a Van Bergen house go away, but there are very expensive legal issues involved in declaring a property "historic" (and therefore protected) without the owner's consent

I like this: Architectural Forum claimed that “So far as housebuilding is concerned, the 84-year-old architect could now lay claim to having reshaped the countenance of his country. . . . now there is scarcely a house built anywhere in the U.S. which does not in some way . . . show the imprint, h...

Oh, jeez! I was excited to read this thread from the start and see the photos, not yet realizing the conversation was ten years old!

the 3 in Canton are visible from the street, although the lots have a fair amount of trees so you don't get a 100% clear view. The Weltzheimer house in Oberlin is visible from multiple angles and is open to the public for tours in warmer months: http://www.oberlin.edu/amam/flwright.html. I had full ...

There's nothing wrong with being inspired - there's something wrong with saying it, because it's usually a crutch. I can almost always guarantee that a real estate listing marked "inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright" will be as reliable as "Frank Lloyd Wright would have loved these"

The law that applies is the law of the state where the divorce is filed, so question #1 is where the divorce was filed/entered. It's hard to think back more than a hundred years, but divorce law had a few common characteristics in all the states. You needed specific legal grounds. There wasn't "no f...
