I got a kick out of the last paragraph of the Times story: But he did respond in April to Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan when he objected to Christie's auctioning eight other windows from the Martin house. "Those windows must come back to the Martin house," Mr. Moynihan told Jacek A. Wyso...

Well done ! I don't see the point of discussing art and design without the necessary visual references. I'm certainly enjoying my part in the process. I'll keep going 'til I run out of room in my iPhoto cache -- AT&T seems to have no storage limit in their (my) Small Business Web Hosting facilit...

If, as W A Storrer says, the first coat of paint found on the exterior is light blue, could it be that the original stucco was unpainted (i e, integrally colored) ?

I found the Lincolns on this page. Frankly, I prefer the unaltered model, but it's a pleasure to see good pictures of his customized one. (He bought two of the first Continentals off the line, and gave one to "one of his daughters" who promptly wrecked it, apparently !) Joel Silver apparen...

On the matter of wood finish preservation, a recent episode of "This Old House" demonstrated the use of liquid TCP in the removal of decades of grime from the surface of interior woodwork such as newel posts and stair handrails. "It's basically elbow grease" was the stated techni...

Professor Storrer's plan of the Kraus residence, with a dramatic photo looking northwest that takes in the entry doors (left). I note that this is one of the Wright house plans that includes a parallelogramatic bed. Though there appears to be room for a normal bed if necessary, I wonder if the Kraus...

Hard to tell what it really is from such a distance ! I'm basing my provisional approval on the two small residential towers Mr Meier completed in Manhattan (on Manhattan ?), which were quite tasty and (of course) restrained. The only bombast from his office that I can think of is the Getty palace c...

I admire Mr Meier for pursuing a vision of purist architecture at a high level of quality and internal consistency, over a long career. I enjoyed the series of houses that he produced, starting in the late nineteen-sixties. About as far from Wright as you can get, for sure. . .!

There's no doubt that an all-wood interior is now, and may have been then, a luxury compared to the alternatives. (When was gypsum board introduced ?) Neutra loved innovative materials, certainly. (Wright's all-steel designs for Los Angeles, 1938, must have been a response to Neutra's work, don't yo...
