SDR, No unwanted finish build-up, for I spread the top coats very thinly. A light coat every 3 to 4 years. KevinW, Are you familiar with the houses I mentioned...I believe seeing them in the flesh you would not describe them as high gloss. A body of finish is desirable. It is easier to properly clea...

I've been using Sikkens Cetol 1 & 23 for 15 years now. They recommend that all previous coatings must be removed before applying any Sikkens product. I'm sure you are looking for longevity so don't skimp on this removal step. Wait 24 hrs before applying additional coats. TSP, house hold bleach and w...

Full bricks at Dobkins are 8 inches long. The masonry has all head joints struck flush with no colorant, with recessed bed joints colored a dark grey, which reads under certain light as black. A very distinct horizontal pattern is set up that contrasts handsomely with all internal board and sunken b...

Which houses did Wright specify stainless steel for counter tops? I'm not aware of one where it was originally designed and installed. Mrs. Hagan rejected the red Micarta that was specified by Wright for her workspace, and requested stainless. She also passed on the poured floor with module lines an...

I've toured the Affleck twice and seeing these pics reinforce how special the home is...I find it unique. I heard that some of the property adjacent the house was originally owned by the Affleck's. It was because of the exterior wood finish at Affleck and Reisley (Sikkens) that we chose to follow th...

mz, The article of your home was forwarded to me before it was posted on Wright Chat. I enjoyed viewing the pics and after studying them I knew the Wright Chatters would enjoy critiquing every aspect of your home. They did not disappoint. Your built-in banquette, with windows above, window wall, alo...
