Drawing

Shoot. I guess I'll have to start paying the site (that's a newer feature). Drek.

Correct birth year

I'd tried to reply to the question on where the correct birth year info comes from, but accidentally put it into another entry. The title of that is "Correct birth year".

Correct birth year

The person who uncovered his correct birth year was Thomas Hines, in an article printed in the Wisconsin Magazine of History. I wrote about this for Taliesin guides. What I wrote (edited) is below: In the Wisconsin Magazine of History: Volume 50, number 2, Winter 1967, Hines wrote an article entitle...

Floor plan of Masselink apartment

This is from the series of drawings executed by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation in 1989. As you can see, the rooms had already been numbered.

Residence Life Manager

I don't really know, but you always go to Jason to find out where everyone is, where they've gone, when they're coming back, & what trips are being made. He also corrals everyone as they prep for the Taliesin Formals (now just held once a month). I am sure there are other things he does, kind of lik...

Lincoln

Maybe it's just become part of the "truth" that people say. Just like "everyone" "knows" that Miriam Noel was a morphine addict because Secrest wrote that there were some signs pointing toward that. Or that Carlton "sealed all of the doors at Taliesin" & murdered people as they ran out, I guess, 1 d...

Lincoln

Thank you, Roderick. I thought that Gill came up with it, then looked at Secrest & she states it, so I was like, "Damn!" Because I trust her before Gill.

Oh, let me amend that: I trust her WAAAAAY before Gill.

Cornelia's living space

Roderick: Cornelia lived in that apartment at Taliesin the entire time I knew her (I wonder who lived there before). Joe Fabris lived in that space the last few years of his life. Once Joe made the decision to spend the rest of his life in WI, he moved to the space Cornelia brought you to (what I kn...

living space

Yes, but one year Cornelia moved to the room under the Studio office ... the one under under the big cantilevered balcony, that forms the car shelter. I know because one summer we watched a series of Leonardo da Vinci television specials there ... in her room. It must have been in the mid-70's. The...

Roderick asked: Spring Green, when was the entrance moved to its current location and the access to the lower level moved to where the original entrance was in the loggia? Today's formal front door? Curtis Besinger talked about it being moved in 1943. He discusses this change in p. 147 of Working Wi...

mending tape

Oh, good: glad what I wrote makes sense. Yes, it seems they used a lot of mending tape on drawings. Of course, they weren't always working with super-carefulness to keep drawings as long as possible. Rudolph Schindler took a few photographs in Wright's Taliesin drafting studio when he was there in 1...

No, I didn't see a colored drawing: 2501.059 is the blueprint of 2501.060. I exclaimed about it being color first because, well, I wasn't expecting a blueprint, AND because colored pencils were used to color certain things in the blueprint drawing. They (Wright and/or his apprentices) took colored p...

I wrote my question about a number for The Architectural Forum magazine drawing, then went to visit people for Christmas so I hadn't looked at the updates here on the Wrightchat. Well, I guess we won't know if the drawing ever had a number. The folks at the Avery Library didn't know, either. The per...

I just read about his death on facebook. I'm sorry I didn't get to see him the last time I was in AZ a couple of months ago. He did a great job organizing FLW's work into a collection.

I hope he has a fun time in the afterlife with the Wrights & all of his dogs.

Architectural Forum magazine drawing of Taliesin

I've got a question about a drawing number. All drawings that came out of Wright's office have numbers given to them by Bruce Brooks Pfeiffer. For example, one of the earliest drawings of Taliesin (in Wisconsin where I work) was given the number 1104.001. "1104" denotes Taliesin I. The "11" being fo...
