By the way Mike, thanks for your original post. It will be interesting to have a closer look at Gehry's work as it was to see "My Architect" which was a very good film. I agree that fun and whimsy help generate much great art. However, Gehry's work spawns similar debates as did the debates of the ti...

Just finished with the "Martial Arts Weekly" web site. Ordered a ninja outfit. Thankfully, they had the larger sizes for us westerners. By the way, last year we sprayed the holes with insecticide before I plugged them and we have yet to see the bees re emerge from the boards. Killed two more before ...

Just got in form using the wasp spray. I nailed 3 of them. Since the outbreak last year, I am now always watching for the black furry image hovering along the edges of the house or attached to the board. Luckily you can really see them from quite a distance as the boards run up to 60 feet in several...

OK, I'll bite. Certainly Wright and probably Gehry were the most avant garde architects of their times. For me, the comparison stops there. Although I do like the band shell at Millenium Park in Chicago as a huge ornament and performance venue, I don't really care for his work. Will the term "gaudy"...

Thanks for the response RJH. You were given the same info as I found. There has got to be some sort of repellent out there in the rain forrest... And, it is an easy application here as I have only spotted the invaders on the bottom edge of the siding. Last year we detected about 5 holes. It is manag...

Help! Carpenter Bees are back, not good for FLW houses

Just went outside to the garage and 2 huge carpenter bees were looking for a choice spot to start their boring into the mahogany. Grabbed the nearest tennis racket and had at it with them. THIS IS A VERY BAD SIGN FOR THOSE IN ILLINOIS WITH WOODEN TRIM HOUSES. Last year was the first year in seven ye...

What was I thinking. I can't believe I missed the Sonny idea. Remove the mustache, apply a bit of pancake makeup and there you are. By the way, you may give the public too much credit. Recognition of FLW is one thing, Fallingwater is another. It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who have...

I just wonder if the Falingwater and Fellowship angles are too narrow for a mass marketed "major motion picture." Many successful film bios have looked at the entire life of an individual unless nothing was going on at an early age. Wright had a very compelling story right from the beginning up unti...

Chicago Tribune articles today on FLW

Two pieces on FLW in the real estate section of the Chicago Tribune today. One on Samara and another on a $5,000.00 Fireproof house remodel. Also a mention of the Mile High design relative to Calatrava's proposed building which was reported to be a likely go. It has passed zoning.

Take a look at the Sikkens web site. It is a Dutch company with a long history and they have a few systems to choose from for exterior applications. I have seen some of the weathered Cypress and am not a big fan of the look. It is a furniture versus driftwood look. Also, weathering can result in spl...

After looking at these and the Guererro photos, I think (forgive me Frank) that this is one of his more clunky designs. However, on some level, I do like the house on the whole and I thought the photo of the carport side was the most interesting and best executed. Just one man's opinion.

Ok Jim, I'll bite. What do you mean by "ambivalence" about Jews? Were you just attempting to be euphemistic or what? Was this wink wink or were you clearing your throat. Let's be clear.
