Re: For sale: Gerry Jones house - Carefree, AZ
There are times when organizing a floor plan without paying attention to what it will do to the plan of the roofs causes problems. That seems to have happened at one end of this house, where the roof is higgledy-piggledy.

(An aside: For a look at a little-known work by Yamasaki, go to Olin Hall on the campus of Carlton College in Northfield, MN.)

Not being a member of Facebook, nor wanting to join, I shall answer Frank Phillips' question here:
Robert Keeler Mosher (not Robert Mosher Kheeler) was the on-site apprentice for the Fallingwater construction.

I was surprised to see that the house is in better condition than some reports implied.

Re: WESTHOPE INTERIOR STAIRS
There is no guest house at Westhope, The 'cottage' is servants' quarters. There is no interior stair. The plans published for Hitchcock were drawn specifically for the book, showing houses as-built. That should answer all your questions about the plan. Volume 8 of "Selected Houses" covers ...

Re: For sale: Ray Kappe's Freeman House - Palm Springs, CA
Kappe's work is consistently excellent. It is also hard to understand spatially through photographs alone. Kappe deserves an in-depth analysis, chockfull of drawings.

Re: The roof over Kentuck Knob
Refer to the drawings posted on page 3 of this thread. The copper was a very thin layer over plywood roofing. I suppose the weight of asphalt would be close to the thin copper, but I suspect somewhat heavier.

50 years! Tish-tosh! Try 70+ years.
I agree, DRN: This should be read as a kickoff for further study. Repair and maintenance are the biggest concerns for all FLW buildings at this point and forevermore. Whatever may lack in this effort, overall it should serve as a basis for study.

This sound like a basis for a lecture at a FLWBC Conference, and possibly an opportunity to publish for the membership.

Re: Hanna House Table?
A similar photo, but slightly broader in scope, in the HB article shows no evidence of anything other than an array of play things for the children. If it was designed for that room, the scale might have been anything to match the size of the children from toddlers to teens. The remodeling took plac...

Re: Oak Park Studio New Book
A slight diversion: Historians are often defined as either "architecture historians" or, as in this case, "architectural historians." Since "architectural" is an adjective, wouldn't that mean that the noun it modifies, "historian," is a work of architecture, w...

Re: Hanna House Table?
You're right, SDR, the scale is not readily apparent. A larger than end table size would seem even less likely to be legit.

Re: Hanna House Table?
The January, 1963 HB, devoted to Hanna, includes photos (pp 59-61) of tables of this scale, about 15, 16" tall. The tops are hex, but the legs are straight down from the corners. The material looks like metal, but the photos are not clear enough to know for sure. There are small triangular tabl...
