Years ago, Bart had the same problem Joe Price had: Some nutcase set fire to his house because it was too unusual. Like Price, the Prince House arson was never solved.

The standardized theaters were to have been located across the country in small shopping malls (precursors of strip malls). The idea was that the shops would utilize the parking lot during the day, and the theater during the evening. The project would probably have gone through but for Mike Todd's 1...

Do you mean "Balch" or "Bach"? I thought the Oak Park Balch House was on a quiet street, while Bach is on noisy, busy Sheridan.

Walser is the most important of the three. Its future survival would depend on relocating it. It is surrounded by multifamily housing in a bad neighborhood and has been stripped of its wonderful windows. It's salvagable, but the cost would be high. VanderKloot is a version of the Prefab Bungalow.

I'm not too concerned about civility; what passes for civility today seems more like political correctness, which, along with multiculturalism, is one of the idiot twins of modern American culture. But if one is to be uncivil, one should at least be witty. Ghostwhisperer sounds like an adolescent tr...

It's Eric's house. Eric inherited over 20 acres at the top of the Malibu mountains above Pepperdine University. Because of scarce water, only two structures can be built on the property. The problem Eric has is that if he finishes his house, his property tax will go through the roof, forcing him to ...

The slight zig-zag of the wood be-flowered balcony, top right on the first drawing is interesting. Add this to the list of works that desperately need to be better publicized. Although the concrete version would be interesting to see executed, the brick version is certainly handsome enough.

John Geiger remembers that FLW did not like Ayn Rand, and used her commission just to make some money, but didn't put that much effort into a house he knew she would not build.

The only concern I have about the proposed alterations, which seem to be restorations, and who can argue with that? is the plan to alter the approach. FLW's split walkways with the garden in between were a part of the plan that should be considered unalterable. It sounds like they're planning to do ...

The wonderful thing about this site is that houses that have received short shrift in the past, for whatever reason, like Lamberson, Feiman, Muirhead and Dobkins, are finally getting the attention they deserve. Now if we can only get into Arnold Friedman and Dudley Spencer.

The sad thing about the encroachment is that David had the opportunity to buy all that land at a reasonable price, but thought no one would ever build there, so, being a thrifty fellow to say the least, he passed.
