I am not an architect and I don't know if they teach this in school, but one item that seems to be universally lacking currently is the positive aspects of solar orientation and shading techniques.

I think Mr. Harding's suggestion is superb. His idea could be implemented almost immediately, with or without affecting the existing school. Limit it to a dozen "students" at a time. Offer it twice a year during the winter months (for obvious reasons). Charge enough to generate a modest ca...

I agree with Mr. Harding that the school needs to go, but is it enough to staunch the financial bleeding? I am betting that their budget is more than 4% out of balance.

Until the school recently hired Sydney Robinson they did not even have a course that taught Wright's history and background let alone any of this design principles. Have you seen some the latest student structures? IMHO they are not inculcating the principles of organic architecture. Victor Sidy has...

These tables/stools are reproductions based on the original drawings. There is also an interesting sofa for in front of the fireplace that has a bookshelf built into the back of it. Very unique!

Also, did you notice that the tops are not "inset" to help retain the cushions. In the photo of the original living room you can see one of them used as an end table with a book on it sans cushion.

Now we could use velcro to keep the cushion from sliding off, but what did they use?

Unlike many Usonians, this house has a very generous kitchen area. The living room with the office at the end is quite wonderful. Amazingly all the original window sashes have been carefully retrofitted with double-pane glazing. Like the Lamberson House the original fireplace has been modified to in...

If I remember correctly, from the many tours I have taken, Mrs. Martin ran a daycare/kindergarten/home school enterprise in that space. Anyone who has ever seen this space would not call it a basement, as that conjures up the image of dark and dank, which this space is definitely not. The Robie Hous...

Just to clarify:

Theo. Van Fossen, while a follower of Wrightian design principles, was NOT an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Re: Cloquet MN

Can anyone gleam some info on this home and if it is possible to at least see the exterior? Thank you The owners of the Lindholm House are very private people and have not opened their home for many events. It is also not easy to find or visible from any public way. Unless you are indeed a serious ...

He did renderings for Wright and apparently consulted at job sites:

"1937 Moved to Fla. called to Lakeland, Florida to interpret Frank L. Wright's blue prints for building for Fla. Southern University."

actually Florida Southern College not Univ.

Jeff, I accidentally found out that the Bruce Goff archives ended up at the Art Institute of Chicago, which I thought was somewhat strange in that he had such a close affiliation with Oklahoma. Maybe it was because they have an architectural focus because of Sullivan and Wright, etc. Maybe the would...
