Re: Imperial Hotel dishes for sale
I'm confused. I thought it was the other way around. This set by Noritake shows the coffee cup with the red circle overlapping the brim which was reportedly designed that way by Wright to hide women's lipstick marks. The colors are more muted and the design seems much more refined to me. Since Norit...

Re: For lease: Richard Neutra's Lew House
I believe the drapes were a feature of the original intent that the carport be usable as an outdoor entertainment "room." I too saw the house before it was questionably restored. The original finishes were so much nicer. The firm Marmol Radziner usually does such sensitive work. I wonder if client d...

Re: Little-known Albert Frey restored
SDR, You have a great deal of architectural knowledge. But using your criteria if I personally am not aware of something, can I call it "little-known?" Palm Springs is a town which celebrates all things modern. This house is on a hill on the main drag and quite visible to anyone driving by. The name...

Apparently it's being "restored" due to issues with the foundation. This sentence makes me wonder why they were ripping up the floor slab in the first place: Haddaway said that when contractors lifted up the concrete slab over the living room floor, they found an 18-inch gap between the ground and w...

My thoughts too Jeff. If the hotel concept is not working, perhaps the building could go condo, although I shudder at what the maintenance fees might be. Are there not enough people or creative businesses in the area to actually make the thing work as it was intended? Apparently not. It just blows m...
