We just got the news today. It seems the Currier is evolving under new leadership! (Museum director Alan Chong is seen in the video, along with Kurt Sundstrom, curator.) I am astounded--and excited for our visitors, who have only been able to view Kalil from the van as we ride back to the Currier. T...

It is doubtful the Currier would be interested in ownership of Kalil (as we have been told). One Frank Lloyd Wright house is enough :D

There appears to be new development (homes) adjacent to the Kalil site. It's a very desirable neighborhood.

For sale on Amazon, $5,000.00, including envelope mailed from Scottsdale in 1953: https://www.amazon.com/Frank-Lloyd-Wright-Letter-Signed/dp/B00JCATNNE I believe a portion of this version (on Taliesin West letterhead) is shown in the earlier WC thread referenced by SDR. Note the slight differences i...

Thank you, Jay. Very kind of you to do that. Actually, I utilized the resources of this board to contact the architect, who reached out to Doug. And now we are all set!! I do understand the need for security, but that goes both ways. As Stan suggested, a compromise was in order here. But airbnb has ...

I appreciate your sympathy, Stephen. Strings attached, indeed. I wrote this post in the vague hope that someone knows someone who can help me communicate directly with the owner of the Meyer House. We had a discussion over the Airbnb platform, but I don't have an email address. His privacy is well-p...

airbnb "experience" at Meyer House

I am delighted that the Meyer house in Galesburg is available not only for overnight stays, but for one-hour tours (an airbnb "experience.") The very gracious owner was kind enough to arrange a tour during our upcoming Michigan sojourn in the Palmer House. However, I'm afraid we won't be able to att...

I wrote a long reply to Tom's questions earlier today but it disappeared when I hit preview :x Anyway, to sum it up: Most of the plan revisions were done at Taliesin after the Zimmermans' meeting with Wright at the Plaza Hotel and subsequent correspondence. The bedroom and workspace changes Tom aske...

From John Geiger's website, jgonwright.net: There are three versions of the construction drawings for the Zimmerman house. The first set of preliminary working drawings was prepared at Taliesin prior to Geiger's departure for the building site in New Hampshire. On arrival, Geiger determined that the...

At the bottom of a brief letter to Dr. and Mrs. Zimmerman, typed on Taliesin letterhead and dated June 19th, 1952, is this notation, in FLLW's handwriting: The house is a classic USONIAN! I've always thought that was a little wink... and a nod to the nature of the neighborhood. "This is how we do Ne...

Absolutely, positively NOT from the Zimmerman House (as if anyone here would be fooled by the seller's claims!) No one but the Zimmermans ever lived in the house. And they preserved everything--even fabric remnants--with one notable exception: the easy chairs built for the main living space. At some...

The Zimmerman House has a similar illuminated brick screen (called a "brick grille" on the plans) at the end of the entrance gallery, adjacent to the fireplace. It extends from floor to ceiling. Multi-colored glass nuggets (lump cullet) from Corning Glass rest within each square void, as specified b...
