mdgraham - as the Mills expert, do you know did he do the interiors also? Wild Bird seems very different from any other thing I can find he has done. Most remind me of the "house of the future" http://alum.mit.edu/pages/sliceofmit/files/2010/04/Monsanto.jpeg and some are pretty mundane: http://www.m...

yes, I know this was built in the late 50s, that's why I picked the 1957 corvette example. I also know this was not a FLW house. I was asking a general question about the concept. If someone were to buy a historic Wright house (some of which were built in the 30's) Would there be an acceptable way t...

I had not been to the site before the renovation was well underway and had not seen photos of the "old" interior before I visited this website. During my time on the project, this home struck me in a way that no other has - and I have worked on some fantastic properties. Please also know that my day...

Like I said before, I am not a student of architecture. I apologize if I was offensive when I talked about FLW. I understand the historical significance and appreciate the beauty of his work. I have just done so from a distance and had never really looked into the man or his projects very deeply. I ...

I have worked on other historic homes in the area, including one that is under renovation right now.

In what way would a renovation project meet with your approval?

I am at a loss to understand why he just won't let any one us have a fondness for the original. I do understand having a fondness for the original. It's lovely. It deserves respect. I just don't think it's right to disrespect the new architect (who may not have made the fireplace/ceiling choice you...

regardless - "The structures were submitted to historic assessment by a professional architectural historian, Shiela McElroy, who found the Workshop/Studio without architectural merit and nearly uninhabitable because of toxic building materials." Grab your torches and pitchforks - then Google Shiela...

just because you own a Picasso does not give you the right to cut it up or paint over it. Take this in the spirit of intelligent conversation and healthy debate. Let's look at this another way. Let's say you just bought your dream car. A 1957 corvette. The problem is - it constantly overheats. It's...

perhaps you all should reserve judgement on wildbird then.

You have only seen two photos of one room.

SDR - another reason I posted was because of the lack of clarity on the photo that had been posted (white paint). I am doing more than comparing photos - I have spent time in this house. I get that some of the charm of the old wildbird was in it's roughness, and that the remodel took that away. I ag...

mdgraham - I was following your advice. I went to a link you posted in November from the "TALIESIN LEGACY" book. I was doing due diligence. If this photo is representative of what you are trying to protect. I don't get it. I think that thing is atrocious.

I worked on the project as a low voltage contractor. I am not hiding anything. I came to this site through a simple Google search of "Wild Bird Big Sur" I simply posted because I did not understand why you all seem to be so angry about this remodel. I still don't. I don't see why I'm being attacked....

oh brother. I suggest you find solace in your history book. Just because you do not agree with the aesthetics of the remodel does not mean you are the one with taste. Art is subjective. This cabin in the woods built by a millionaire skyscraper architect has been purchased by another millionaire and ...
