Such amazing progress DRN, congratulations! A couple questions, and apologies if they have been covered before on this extensive thread: Was locating what looks to be amazingly talented tradespeople to do the work a problem? I could see many contractors electing to pass up even bidding on such a job...

Not too much into the "cottage" aesthetic of the other homes on the tour, but the ability to see Walker up close is worth the $30 alone and it would be an excuse to enjoy the overall beauty of the area. I'm sure there are other modern homes one could check out, even if the name of a famous architect...

Despite association with this design and one of Wright's best-known unbuilt designs, I've never seen any information (biographical, etc.) on the Morrises beyond reference to ownership of the gift shop and association with the various unbuilt projects. How long did they own the gift shop? Where did t...

If it were my house I'd repaint it either Wright Gold or Wright Cornfield Tan from Pittaburgh Paint's FLW palette. These choices would result in a less than 100 percent original project. But, but in my mind the pink detracts from the house and also makes me think the earthen hues of California's sou...

Thanks for the link, peterm. Due to the the relative lack of frequent updates I don't check Wright on the Market on a regular basis. I hope this house can find a buyer who will be a good steward. Per the broker sounds like it's been maintained. Looks like it's vacant at the moment. I'll have to chec...

Louis Fredrick home, Barrington Hills, IL
This home strikes me as one of the less frequently photographed Wright works. Perhaps I've just not come across a publication that provides more than a couple photos. The house sounds like an attractive plan and from the couple photos I've seen (view from driveway to entrance and carport) it looks a...

Modesto International Architecture festival
www.modestoarchfest.com Living fairly close to Modesto, this event caught my eye. Sadly no mention of a tour of the Walton house, at least from a review of the information available online. Some other interesting mid-century buildings and homes to be featured though. I recall hearing the owners of W...

In good hands indeed and definitely with some features not seen in any other Wright house, or at least any other to my knowledge. The built-in seating in the gallery (instead of the typical storage cabinets) and the exposed truss system in the great room are indeed unique. I'd love to see a detail s...

I wonder why the additional wall was not built to match the Carmel stone of the house? It is not a big wall so I wouldn't think availability of materials would be an issue - maybe just lack of sensitivity to the original materials? At least the grouting on the rocks in front of the house appears to ...

Yes peterm, my statement about perceiving the house as dark does sound silly given the number of windows...maybe it's the perceived weight of the coffered concrete celing that gives me the sense of darkness (or heaviness perhaps?)...of course having said that, somebody who's visited the house will n...

To any posters who have been in Tonkens (though I don't think it has been made available much for tours), how is the natural lighting in the house? It's always struck me as being very dark in photos...I wonder if use of the gold leaf on the ceiling blocks was an attempt to provide a sense of light? ...
