Possibly relevant to the subject of Broadacre and Jim Crow, I’m looking forward to seeing this exhibit tomorrow at MoMA:

Re: FLlW and Jim Crow
Broadacre City as a planning concept (and its possible relationship to environmentalism, sprawl, racial injustice and white flight) deserves more critical analysis, in order to truly contemplate its strengths and weaknesses. The fossil fuel consuming automobile being so central to its design is extr...

New Pritzker winners Lacaton and Vassal
“When you go to the doctor,” said Jean-Philippe Vassal, “they might tell you that you’re fine, that you don’t need any medicine. Architecture should be the same. If you take time to observe, and look very precisely, sometimes the answer is to do nothing.” “Demolishing is a decision of easiness and s...

RM Schindler Walker House
This was one of the major highlights of the 2019 Los Angeles conference. Romano understands what he has, and the house sings because of his stewardship.

The article say the walls are “clad in stone”. Does that imply that they are block covered with stone, inside and out?

Re: former FLWBC board member passes
This is just terrible news. I’m so sorry. I met Dan indirectly first through Wright Chat, then later in person when he nominated us for the Wright Spirit Award in 2016. He was a lovely, creative man, and so helpful and supportive to us. His stewardship of the Dobkins house was superb. We send our de...

Re: Sure, we can call anything "Frank Lloyd Wright"
Realtor speak: The house’s “prominent linear lines”... As for compression and release- What makes Wright’s use of this unique is that he does this not by accident or to save space, but to create a specific sensation. Plan and elevation are both squeezed simultaneously to move us forward, and to inte...

Re: Wright and Queen Elizabeth II
“Ultimately from the Germanic tribal name of the Franks, in the early medieval Frankish Empire, the status of being "a Frank" became synonymous with that of a free man; hence also the English adjective frank (Middle English, from Old French franc, 12th century).” -Wikipedia He certainly lived up to ...

I’m relieved this experience didn’t hamper your appreciation of Wright’s architecture. Were Howe and Hill still there at the time?
Did you continue architecture studies elsewhere?

Re: For Sale: John Randall McDonald - Brookfield, Wisconsin
That’s a lotta house (3,000 sq ft. and over an acre of land, for 370,000) for the price.
Is that a guest house over the carport, Paul?
The stone on the fireplace is unfortunate, but overall, it looks quite appealing.

How exciting! I hope it happens for you, and keep us posted. Antonin Raymond effectively bridged the worlds of Le Corbusier and Wright. (Bet you didn’t think that was possible?!) Definitely Ando. But check out Kengo Kuma, too. He is currently one of the most important. http://www.dezeen.com/tag/keng...

Fascinating, Roderick.
Did you spend enough time there to develop relationships with Howe, Hill, or Peters?
What was the main reason you left?
Did you continue your architectural training elsewhere?
I hope they refunded your tuition!

Re: 1962 documentary about FLW
Wonderful. Such a charismatic figure! And Cronkite gives it all appropriate gravitas while pointing out the key ideas, quotes and works. Current video creators might benefit from noticing how the musical score underlines the ideas, instead of wallpapering everything with their favorite New Age music...

It’s easy to flip a photo digitally. Can that be done with film?
