Re: Sure, we can call anything "Frank Lloyd Wright"

It gives me vertigo to think of everything I would want to correct if I were to own this house. Dizzying, indeed.

Re: Crate and Barrel's "Modern Prairie" line

In my opinion, the nicer items are not a part of the the collection, but related. The Clement table runner is my favorite. The Asian inspired Skylar footed bowl in white and Cherokee red would compliment any Wright environment, Prairie or Usonian.

The musical soundtrack compliments the architecture so well. Connected at the hip.

I was just told the Grant house did fine in the storm and sustained no damage.

Re: New to Board

Welcome usonia!

I came to Wright via Schindler as well. And through Schindler I also discovered Loos. Vienna, Chicago and Spring Green all contributed to forming the foundations of modernism in LA. Fascinating connections.

Re: New to Board

Art may be timeless, but contemporary culture changes at break neck speed. If something is honest and speaks clearly to its epoch, that’s enough for me.

Congratulations! If you can’t locate the originals, contact Stafford Norris lll, who could make you exquisite replicas. The only problem? They will be better constructed than the originals.

Re: Cedar Rapids Storm

Mies is still tall and proud, from what I hear. We’ve been in Iowa since March, with only a couple of isolated trips back to Chicago to check in, get mail, etc. But the Rogers Park neighborhood, which was hit hard, is only a couple of miles from Lincoln Park.

And in Chicago, the Rogers Park neighborhood was hit by a tornado. Yes, a huge swath of the Midwest was affected.

Re: Cedar Rapids Storm

Just saw this. I guess I haven’t been checking in as often as previously. I can find out about the Grant house and get back to you. We’re ok here at Lamberson (not sure about Alsop). We just had some large branches and thousands of smaller branches and twigs everywhere strewn across the property. It...

Re: For sale: John Lautner Residence - Silver Lake, CA

It’s such an efficient and cozy plan. The desk tucked behind the angled sofa, the dining table perched above the living area, the bookcases under the ribbon windows, the change in levels... so many delightful surprises. Early Lautner is so fine. I wish there were more designs from his later years fo...

Re: For sale: John Lautner Residence - Silver Lake, CA

Yummm

I remember reading that when the house was built, one had to walk outside on the deck to access the bedroom wing. I wonder if that was later enclosed.

I love the way Lautner incorporates splashes of color; the turquoise wall is a delight.
