These iconic photographs, with their accompanying scholarly narration are a joy to behold.

Re: What are your top 5 Wright homes?

I find it interesting that the majority of favorites shared here are from Wright’s later Usonian period, not the earlier Prairie houses.

If this same question would have been asked 30 years ago, I think the answers would have been much different.

Re: FAWCETT FARM FOR SALE?

Agreed- but I’ve decided to give up on my criticisms of remodeled kitchens and bathrooms in modernist and organic designed houses. It seems like it’s a lost cause.
Wright did not want super glossy, glassy, glitzy anything (with the exception maybe of his Cherokee Red cars…)

Re: FAWCETT FARM FOR SALE?

One thing which I would consider changing is the color of the steel entrance gate. The steel orb in the fireplace is red, so that might be a cue for the gate? Or maybe turquoise? But if Wright specified the sand color, then that’s another story. The house and grounds are stunning, and Crosby Doe’s p...

Re: A New Path Forward for the School of Architecture Founded by Frank Lloyd Wright

It took months for me to get copies (expensive btw) from Taliesin when Oscar Nunoz was in charge of the archives. I don’t blame him personally, but as a homeowner, the process was quite involved. The new situation is vastly improved. Though I hadn’t examined the storage itself, I was told by reliabl...

Re: A New Path Forward for the School of Architecture Founded by Frank Lloyd Wright

Why is it disastrous that Columbia and MOMA now control the archives? Was it really so much better storing irreplaceable documents and drawings in less than desirable conditions at Taliesin West?

The Washington Post had nothing to do with this shallow article, as far as I can tell.

Re: Article: "To Do Historic Preservation Right, We Need To Move Beyond Our Fixation on Historic Material"

Anyone who’s experienced the amazing restorations of cathedrals and historical architecture in Europe or Asia can see that it’s the sensible cooperation of regulators, bureaucrats, architects and the building trades which ensures that so many structures are well restored. It’s naive to think that de...

Re: Goetsch-Winckler Usonian house

Welcome! I’m so happy that you have decided to bring that bathroom back! I was disappointed when I saw photos of the “update”, and being the purist that I am, was hoping that those fixtures hadn’t been thrown out. You have purchased one of the finest and most important houses in Wright’s entire oeuv...

Re: Bazett-Frank house repair; redwood plywood query

I regret to say that this is the first that I have heard about the incredible undertaking you all did at the Bazett house. I frequented WrightChat regularly, but stopped for a while due to a number of reasons I won’t get into now. I wish I had stayed with it, if only to be aware of this Herculean ef...
