Re: Walter Mondale, 1928-2021
So far we have two exterior photos taken from approximately the same angle; in one the house is draped in snow. I find it hard to judge from this limited evidence what changes the house has undergone. I assume that most of the alterations will be found inside . . .? Again I appeal to readers to look...

Re: Alsop house news
Although there are earlier Wright Chat threads discussing Alsop, here is the first one that goes into the house in some detail. http://wrightchat.savewright.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3137&hilit=alsop Who can update us on the condition of the slab ? What repairs if any were made to it ? Is there more t...

Walter Mondale, 1928-2021
Walter Mondale, Minnesota senator, Jimmy Carter's vice president and Bill Clinton's ambassador to Japan, has died. In 1983 the Mondales bought the house Jack Howe had designed for Mr and Mrs Robert Willow, in North Oaks, Minnesota (1971). In the Howe monograph (Hession and Quigley, 2015) the house i...

Re: Mid-century modern home virtual tours
Excellent. One of the few positive effects of the pandemic has been the proliferation of virtual experience; the architecture world has taken advantage of this phenomenon, to our benefit.

Re: Alsop house news
The plan as drawn provided for one bedroom to start, with a smaller space marked "Help or Sewing"; a future second bedroom and master suite were indicated. Clearly the house was built with that addition integrated into the plan; the childrens' bedrooms were now placed together, with a bath helpfully...

Re: Arthur Dyson Springville, California
What is most appalling about the Shaver Lake house must be the ceiling beams ending in mid-air (as it were). Following that, in both houses, is an apparent tin ear where scale-of-parts-to-whole is concerned. Finishes and furnishings can be blamed on owners or occupants, of course . . .

A nicely-presented story, in any event; all sides heard from, and a reasonable conclusion with no hard feelings ?

Re: Arthur Dyson Springville, California
Again and again we see, in work by "the others," why Wright was the master. Plusses in this house (for me) include a glass backsplash/window in the kitchen, a heavy wood rail atop an all-glass balustrade, and exposed-aggregate floors. Trees enclosed by a walkway outside a bedroom seem to have plenty...

I would like that. Here are images of the property, mostly from the Artstor file except where larger scans were available from print sources. https://library.artstor.org/#/search/Wright%20Alsop;page=1;size=48 http://sdrdesign.com/AlsopLandscape.jpg http://sdrdesign.com/AlsopPlan.jpg http://sdrdesign...

Re: Harold Turner
That would be wonderful. Have you managed to find (or make) photographs of many of the houses ? Have you been able to visit some of them ? When a house is listed for sale, Zillow is usually good source of images. But when a house is not on the market, availability of images is usually restricted to ...
