Re: Richard Smith House, Jefferson, WI

This house was on a Wright and the Like tour many years ago. While I remember the bedrooms seeming rather small and dark, my overall impression was very positive. While the house may be on a town lot, the arms of the house and the view across the golf course gave a wonderful sense of being out in th...

Re: Article: A. Quincy Jones & Whitney Smith house - Los Angeles, CA

The colorful tile in the picture above is way nicer than the tile that would have been used back in the day. Maybe its my age, but EVERY school had a less attractive version--solid color with lots of flecks and nothing that would make you say "Wow!" But it was easy to clean and took enormous amounts...

Re: For sale: John Van Bergen house in Maywood, IL

I hope this house appears on a housework again in the future. It was open many years ago--maybe on the Home and Studio housework a long ago May. The proportions of the house "felt" great inside, though my recollection is that it was what a realtor friend would call "an every surface house," as every...

My recollection of a segment of surviving mural in the dining room is drawn from seeing the house on the FLW Housewalk a few years ago.

Does anyone know anything about the charity event at which these two letters were auctioned off? Or supposedly auctioned off?? An event like that should stick in someone's memory---

The dining room mural must have been in place at some point, because a small section of it has been uncovered in the NW corner of the dining room. There must be a picture somewhere!

I don't recall that any of the Oak Park or River Forest houses have a sliding light fixture.

As I recall from visiting the Beachy house on the FLW Housewalk in May (a bunch of times!!) the sections of the light fixture were meant to slide back and forth along the rail to illuminate the main table or multiple tables that were pushed together. The dining room has two small tables and one larg...

The light fixture that Roderick Grant wonders about looks like the one in the Beachy house dining room.

The text on that page will scare the daylights out of you, as it is about "unusual" ways to light up a home. Acetylene gas and gasoline gas are discussed in some detail. Yikes!!!!!

The pictures show a house that has been tended to in the last few years--maybe to prep it for sale. When I toured the house about 12 years ago it looked tired. Besides a lot of clutter which is now gone, every surface looked like it needed a good scrubbing, and the beautiful wood all needed to be re...

Prairie Style House in Oak Park--great prairie details!

https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/131-S-Humphrey-Ave_Oak-Park_IL_60302_M83403-77666?view=qv I've jogged/walked/driven past this house in Oak Park for years, and always wondered what it looked like inside. Until recently it was almost hidden behind huge evergreens. The realtor's pictu...

As a long time Oak Park resident and a big FLW fan, my first impression of the proposed visitor center was "Great! Build it!" But after reflection, one of the really fascinating things about the Home and Studio (and the other Wright houses in Oak Park and River Forest) is the amazing contrast with t...

We hunted up the Navarro house last week when we were in LA. It's impressive! The actual front of the house is reached by driving past the entrance gate, making a hairpin turn to the right and descending the hill. For those of us from the flat midwest, where streets are laid out in a grid, the drive...

About 45 years ago I lived just east of the Blossom House, and walked past it every day on my way to work. The garage apartment was occupied by students, and was a source of great curiosity. I really envied anyone who could live in that fascinating space, and wished it was me! A few years ago the Bl...
