Thanks to all! I was there 70-71. A friend was there 69-70, he didn't recall it either. Must have been a one-off occasion that wasn't replicated due to its complexity.

If you Google "One Woodward Avenue", which is an early Yama building in Detroit, and search "Images" you'll find some extremely tall lobby glazing. I've been told that the only way to get glass that tall was to use the glass in tension. So the sheets are actually clamped at the head.

Frank's affection for the piano is well known. Was he a skilled pianist, or did he simply have an "ear for music" who was able to learn from his dad and pick up from others throughout his life?

Regarding Michigan Modernism, one of the most insightful comments I've heard was from Gunnar Birkerts at a Cranbrook symposium. The general sense of it was that if Eero Saarinen hadn't died so young, post-modernism would never have evolved.

John Hill was the TAA architect on the project and was assisted by apprentice Anthony Gholz. Anthony later was vice-president at Gunnar Birkerts & Associates.
