Re: Affleck House Analysis

Affleck House exterior wood finish: Talked with Fred Butters today about finishing the exterior. The only exterior finish they have done are the skylights and the long parapet for the deck. They dismantled the deck, and installed new framing. They stripped the wood planks and used Sikkens Cetol 1 a...

Looking through Sargent. <snip> putting in a large I-section in the upper roof with steel rods suspending the lower beam below. To this he added steel flitch plates. <snip> hmm. this reminds me of how the balcony in the Jacobs 2 house is supported. The rod must be in a clerestorey window jamb -wond...

Re: House on the Mesa

What struck me when I first saw the drawings and model of this house ( lat 80's), is how courtyard typology its layout was. I have subsequently been acquainted with the work of John Gaw Meem, who developed the "pueblo revival style" in Sante Fe in the late 20's, with a strong reflection of the court...

Re: Archives to Avery Library/ Columbia University

Im wondering if anyone else has received any archive drawings, and if so what do you think of them. I ask as the ones I have received- seem to me to not included a full set of construction drawings - but various working out of parts of the construction and early preliminary design studies. Im kinda ...

Re: Plans of Jacobs House II

Then using what I garnered from all that, I made a design for a client on their rural property. This has an outward aspect ( rather than inward) to capture as much winter light as possible - when it rains alot - hence the attached glasshouse. I think it would have a been a rather nice house, but ala...

Re: Plans of Jacobs House II

I wonder how he went.? I studied the house back in the 90's after I purchased the Jacobs book from the Taliesin west book store. If I remember correctly I even got to look at the drawings in the Taliesin vault - thanks Bruce for that - was a delight . Those might be at the Avery archive now? I made ...

Ive used his wilderness scale to show others the value of productive design as compared to consumptive design!

It really is a fantastic( and simplisitic) way of measuring. - How would Mr Wrights design fair?
