Re: Hugo Avila's Wright Renders

Brewer, which I'm not familiar with, looks a lot like Chahroudi.

Re: Rose and Gertrude Pauson house

Wasn't there a planned addition extending perpendicular to the main mass? The result would have been a first floor L-shaped plan.

Re: Hugo Avila's Wright Renders

What are the exterior walls made of? Looks like bands on concrete or stucco with narrow bands of wood. Lovely.

Re: Rose and Gertrude Pauson house

This house is such a constant source of fascination: What we need to do is find a temporary site in Scottsdale and create a temporary mock-up of the house. Then charge for admission. I am guessing that the scale would be surprising to some. It seems to have been a pretty tight house...er...desert co...

Re: Frank Lloyd Wright 12 Monograph set

It won't go that cheap. There was a set for sale here in seattle for 1600...which isn't a bad price.

Why haven't they come out with a digital version of the monographs? So much easier than bulky books.

Re: FLW Disney-fied

I'm guessing it was a mix of infringement concerns (the FLW Foundation protects it's IP), as well as the desire to just control their own IP (Disney also aggressively protects it's IP).

Re: Archives to Avery Library/ Columbia University

Decades ago, I worked at the Getty after the Wright archive had been photographed. It was the start of my Wright fascination. I could search the binders of 8x10" photos of drawings at my leisure...on a lunch break, or even coming in on the weekends to marvel at the vast quantity of amazing work. I d...

Re: Archives to Avery Library/ Columbia University

So are these new scans of the drawings, or simply scans of the photos the Getty took of the drawings decades ago. I've always wondered why the Getty hasn't put their drawings on line, but I assume copyright is still an issue. Does the Avery/Moma now own copyright to the drawings? Or did the Foundati...

Re: Hugo Avila's Wright Renders

Great work. Saw it on a Facebook group. That double gable over the living room is odd, as is the double half-gable by that section of perforated block....another bird or squirrel nest invitation. What's the software used to create such images?

Re: Drawings Copyright Question

That is the case in recent years...and I wonder if that is an issue of a new understanding of copyright. Looking into newspaper and magazines from the post-war era, I've found a lot of plans. The Seattle Times, for example, ran a home-of-the-week feature for decades that included a plan drawing.

Re: Drawings Copyright Question

A bit of an update: I spoke with an attorney who felt that the use of newly drawn floorplans should be a fairly safe thing to do. The holder of copyright in the original drawings would have to contend that they owned not only the copyright in the original drawing but the copyright in the architectur...

Re: Drawings Copyright Question

The issue of charges is its own mystery. It runs about $30/image when the archive is creating a high-res scan. I'm fine with that. What puzzles me are the fees related to images that have already been scanned. And there is a separate permissions process, but even that is puzzling as it seems to be d...

Re: Drawings Copyright Question

Money for one. I'm already asking for permission to use 100+ drawings and photos. I want to educate myself on the issue and see if this is a case where "asking forgiveness" is possible.

Re: Drawings Copyright Question

The architects papers are kept at a university archive. I'm getting permission for the drawings I'm reproducing but trying to determine if I need permission for newly drawn floorplans. I wonder how newspapers and magazines back in the day handled this when they ran simplified plans with an article o...

Drawings Copyright Question

Any tips on articles or other resources related to copyright of architectural drawings? Here's the situation: I'm publishing a book on a mid-century architect and am having new floor plans drawn for clarity sake. These are not exact reproductions of his original drawings, but line-art versions. I kn...
