My wife Tanya Irwin and I will attend, looking forward to as enjoyable a time as we had last year in Phoenix. Can somebody recommend a place near the Pfister where we can get a late-night drink, or is it unnecessary to leave the Pfister?

We Did It!

FLLW fangirl Tanya Irwin and I toured Beth Sholom Synagogue on Sunday, June 21, completing our visits to all 17 buildings recognized by the AIA as Wright's Greatest Hits. The only ones we haven't been inside are Winslow and Hanna, and we would have toured Hanna if a bunch of kids from Stanford hadn'...

FLW Mississippi

The wife and I are spending a couple of days in New Orleans before flying out of Tallahassee after touring the Spring House (thanks Byrd Mashburn)! We're curious about the FLW/Sullivan/Charnley properties along the way in Ocean City, MS. (W.A. Storrer attributes them directly to FLW whereas others c...

conference updates

Eric O'Malley, co-founder of www.prairiemod.com, is posting nightly updates of the day's events on his site. The Biltmore is simply fabulous, they closed Taliesin West to the public so we had the run of the place all afternoon. Everyone has been basking in a Wrightian glow! Tomorrow we visit some of...

Tanya and I will be there and anxiously anticipate our stay at the Biltmore. Will anyone else from the February tour of L.A. be there? I just finished assembling our hefty photo album and would be pleased to share it (although our most treasured pictures show our Chihuahuas running around the beach...

FYI, the Scrabble dictionary does not recognize "USONIAN."

mod mom, I don't object to Legos per se; my boys had them but they were basic -- no Star Wars or any of the other 'branded' sets. So they made crooked pyramids and tilting spires and cubes with clinker-brick-like 'imperfections.' All with their own little heads and hands. 'The perfect is the enemy o...

Frank Lego Wright?

See where Lego is retiring its $199 Robie House. Good riddance. What a perversion of Wright's work. If young Wright had had Legos instead of Froebel blocks, he'd have gone on to designing American Foursquares and International Style monoliths. Snap 'em into place, following the instructions, of cour...

Thanks to all of you for your input. Lots o' Googling failed to turn up a location for the Arthur Miller project, but I did find an article about a 1993 recreation of the house in Hawaii by Rattenberger et al. Thoughts?

FLW NY/New England

All -- We're traveling to New York City and New England next week. We hope to see the three Pleasantville houses and the two in New Hampshire. But according to Heinz, seeing many of the others is difficult if not impossible. Is it worth the trouble to try to get a glimpse of Zaferiou, Chahroudi, Mas...

FLW in Buffalo

That is a prime example of Wright Disneyland in Buffalo. It is no more than a cartoon of a Frank Lloyd Wright building. Why don't they just rebuild Fallingwater above Niagara Falls and complete their fantasy? I couldn't agree more. Maybe the Buffalo folks should start billing themselves as Six Flag...

FLW in Michigan

Here's what I can tell you about the Wright houses in Michigan that other posters didn't mention: -- the Whitehall cottages are accessible but with the exception of the Gerts bridge house (itself unexceptional), they've undergone a lot of unfortunate remodeling. -- two houses remain standing in Gran...

Milliken Place, Decatur IL

Does anyone know who is credited with the design for the lightposts at the entrance to Milliken Place in Decatur? Mahony and Von Holst designed two of the homes, and they probably deserve credit for the Irving House attributed to the then-Europe-bound Master. But I read that W.B. Griffin collaborate...

Call me naive, but from what I remember reading in my early days of being an FLLW Fanboy, his designs were meant to be integrated with the site. So unless the design is built on the site he specified, or something pretty close to it, it ain't Wright. One exception would be Monona Terrace, a prime ex...
