Re: 1949 Taliesin Origami Chair - Dimensions? Sketches? Drawing?

Do you expect to find any 90º intersections in your chair ? There isn't a single one visible, for instance, in the section of the Howe chair on the previous page. Is the arm at 90º to the chair side ? I imagine it could be made so. At least that would be one tight finger joint ? THE only 90 degree ...

Re: 1949 Taliesin Origami Chair - Dimensions? Sketches? Drawing?

No, the more fingers, the more glue area---that's right. But if you have a CNC machine, why not let it cut the miters for you. A simply glued miter in 3/4" plywood has more than enough glue area to make a strong joint, without fasteners or biscuits. The CNC router is dependent on the bit in it. So ...

Re: 1949 Taliesin Origami Chair - Dimensions? Sketches? Drawing?

Though many are using CNC technology to finger-joint plywood today, I think most of them wisely use broader and fewer projections, which admittedly provide less glue area on the cheeks of the pins. Perhaps the technique is intended to provide registration of the joined parts, rather than as a tradi...

Re: 1949 Taliesin Origami Chair - Dimensions? Sketches? Drawing?

Here is a picture of my playing around with a scale version of the Howe Chair, but made for digital fabrication. Lasercut out of 1/8 ply in this case, but will scale it up for 3/4 plywood on a CNC router at full size. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50354115087_f41446395b_k.jpg IMG_4596 by Owen ...

Would people be interested in seeing some Stereo photos of Taliesin and s few other FLW works? Example: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49309859713_a2039c7d69_c.jpg IMG_7851 by Owen Collins They can be printed and put in an old fashioned stereoscope to view in 3d. I have uploaded a few to flickr...

Thanks, Owen. Mr Wright encouraged or assigned apprentices to do graphic design; perhaps he even "let pass" the resulting work, without editing. But, as with the buildings, shouldn't we distinguish between designs made while he was alive and in charge, as opposed to posthumous work ? Later on that ...

So---are we convinced that all of these patterns are from the hand of Mr Wright ? I don't recognize half of them---and this final sentence makes me think that maybe there was some latter-day "inspiration" going on ? " Together, Spoonflower and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation are thrilled to ...

Well patron expectations have evolved over the years, and a lot of performing arts venues have had to expand their front of house to meet those expectations. Expanding bar fare and having a small cabaret space are good moves for diversifying revenue. But a paparazzi mural? Oh god.

I can understand how someone who lived at Taliesin would say that it is gone. The spark and life in a community is a incredibly delicate thing. And is hard to truly understand for people that were not there. I can only assume that the nature of the Taliesin community changed irrevocably after the pa...
